The Grammy Awards (originally called the Gramophone Awards)—or Grammys—are presented annually by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences of the United States for outstanding achievements in the music industry. The awards ceremony features performances by prominent artists, and some of the awards of more popular interest are presented in a widely-viewed televised ceremony.
Since 1980 Michael has won a total of 18 awards throughout his career. In 1984, he won a record eight Grammy Awards.

Grammy Legend Award
In 1993 he was awarded the Grammy Legend Award which was presented by his sister Janet Jackson.

Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award
In 2010, he was awarded the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. It was accepted by his children, Prince and Paris and their cousins, 3T. Prior to the presentation of the award, a special tribute performance took place.

Grammy Hall of Fame
Two of Michael's albums were inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2008. The Jackson 5 song, "I Want You Back", was inducted in 1999.
